Cape Buffalo Breeding Project
Elandsvlei Estate specializes in the breeding of disease free cape buffalo from top-quality genetic bloodlines. We started our cape buffalo breeding project in 2016, with 46" wide breeding bull Dingaan bred by Lindsay Hunt of Hunt Africa buffalo.
In September 2019, Elandsvlei Estate purchased the promising young buffalo bull Thukela from Mr. Norman Adami of Nyumbu Wildlife at the Stud Game Breeders auction. As Thukela was still too young to breed at the time of auction, Nyumbu was kind enough to let us use 46 1/2" Kolisi as our breeding bull in 2019 - 2020. Kolisi is the son of the beautiful 46" bull Limpopo and the famous 43" cow Drop Anna.
Our next breeding bull Thukela arrived at Elandsvlei Estate in September 2020, with beautiful horns measuring an impressive 50 2/8" in width. We were very excited to have added these top-quality Nyumbu genetics to our buffalo breeding project!
Elandsvlei Estate's buffalo herd began with a group of lovely buffalo cows from Thaba Tholo and Marakele origin. We grew our herd in 2017 by adding a few cows and calves from Twin City Game Breeders. In 2018, we continued our growth with the addition of several cows and calves running with the magnificent Beast. Beast was the number 1 SCI scoring bull in the world measuring a whopping 142 & 6/8"! Finally, in 2019 we added a group of 10 beautiful cows from the Hunt Africa Herd to further ensure the great genetic diversity of our herd.
Here at Elandsvlei Estate our cape buffalo breeding project centers around the combination of highest quality breeding bulls with the genetic diversity of cows from various bloodlines to produce top results. Our herd now numbers over 150 buffalo, and the future growth of Elandsvlei's buffalo herd is looking very promising!
